The Photographer - Rodney Dimick

Rodney Dimick lives in a small community of roughly 240 people, nestled in the Flint Hills.  It may not be a place of luxury, but a location full of beauty in nature. Countless shots from photographers are taken from great mountain heights or along seashore. The Flint Hills has just as much magnificence as those locations with rolling hills, wildlife and wide-open ranges of lush grass. Cattle dot the hillsides all year long with the most abundance during the spring and summer months. Scattered oil wells bring to remembrance past oil field glory days. If nature seclusion is what you desire, the Flint Hills region should be at the top of your list to visit.

Dimick is a 2016 graduate from Kansas State University of Manhattan, Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising. He spent two years at Butler Community College of El Dorado, Kansas prior to K-State, receiving an associate degree. At K-State, Dimick was a photographer for “The Collegian” newspaper and the “Royal Purple” yearbook. Before K-State, he was a photographer and writer for the Butler Community College magazine, “The Grizzly,” where he received the 2014 Kansas Collegiate Media Journalist of the Year award for Kansas two-year colleges. Outside of college publications, Dimick’s work has been published in “The Wichita Business Journal,” “The Topeka Capital-Journal,” “The Emporia Gazette” and “The Butler County Times-Gazette” along with other local newspapers around his area. In 2020, Dimick received Gold for his photography in a seven-state district (D5) of the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations. His photos and videos are currently featured on billboards and TV stations across the Wichita metro area.

A camera has been in Dimick’s hands for more than 10 years, shooting anything from local weddings to the famous Bill Snyder football. Landscapes and wildlife are Dimick’s favorite subjects to shoot even though he shoots just about anything you can imagine. He has vast experience in sports photography with countless high school and college events under his belt. Dimick also holds countless hours in event photography with shots from casual receptions to special events like a U.S. presidential campaign rally or the iconic Symphony in the Flint Hills.

For the camera buffs, Dimick carries a Nikon D850 and D800 along with Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4 lenses. His arsenal also includes a Nikon SB700 external flash, Manfrotto tripod and fluid head, Varavon Slidecam, Genaray SpectroLED lights, Zoom H6 audio recorder, Rode NTG1 microphone and a Shure SM58 microphone.

Photography aside, Dimick enjoys landscaping, riding motorcycles, exploring new territory, Bible study, baking dessert (because dessert is the main food group)…oh and driving Texas roads - lots of that.
